2. Identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person Of Color

The application process to become a member is:

1. Submit an application during Open Call
2. Attend an Open Call session
3. Complete an one-on-one interview

Why does SOW have an age requirement?

SOW supports young BIPOC creatives ages 17 -24 years old. This age and stage of life is a pivotal transitional period in which young people begin their careers. Because it’s transitional, often BIPOC communities are disconnected from mentorship, guidance, and resources they once had when they were in high school. This is even more true for young people that don’t attend or cannot continue to pursue traditional higher education post high school. SOW aims to support young BIPOC creatives ages 17 to 24 in order to nurture and preserve the creative talent in NYC.

Do I need a college education, degree, or professional portfolio to become a SOW Member?

No! SOW is committed to serving an inclusive community of young BIPOC creatives that come from a range of educational backgrounds. The SOW Member community is made up of people that have never attended college, some that have attended but are no longer enrolled, and Members who have graduated from college. In fact, we prioritize membership to young BIPOC creatives that have not been afforded the same educational opportunities typically required to enter the creative industry. We believe that people’s inherent strengths and creativity come from their lived experiences, not where we went to school.

What if I want to be a SOW Member, but I’m older than the age criteria?

You can join the SOW Network and we'll add you to a roster of more seasoned BIPOC creatives. By joining the Network, you may receive potential future job opportunities, invitations to SOW community events, and public programming. In order to qualify to join the SOW Network, you must:

1. Identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person Of Color
2. Show evidence of a creative practice.

If you are interested in joining the SOW Network, please complete this form.

Why does SOW exclusively support creatives that identify as Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color?

SOW’s mission directly confronts centuries of systemic oppression and white supremacy that has disportionately impacted BIPOC communities. The creative industry is overwhelmingly white due to systemic barriers that make it difficult for young BIPOC creatives to enter creative careers. Our ecosystem model is working to create pathways into the industry in order to build a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse creative sector.

How do I hire from SOW’s Talent Agency?
